Python continues to grow exponentially, but Java is still the most popular programming language. JavaScript is also the most widely used language.
JetBrains is one of the most well-known manufacturers of programming tools. The company’s IntelliJ IDEA Java development environment forms the basis of other IDEs, including Google Android Studio, and Apple, LinkedIn, and many reputable companies are their customers.
The company conducts annual surveys of programmers and recently published the results of a 2020 survey that includes interesting information about the state of the programming world and developers. The results of this report are the data recorded by 19696 programmers and the following key data are extracted from it:
Java is the most popular programming language
JavaScript is the most widely used programming language
Websites are the most common applications that developers are working on
The web-backend is the most popular platform for programmers
Developers go to Go, Kathleen and Python to choose a new language
Python has been the most studied in the last 12 months and 30% of respondents have learned it.
According to JetBrains, one of the reasons Java is so popular is that programmers use JavaScript as part of the project. However, if we consider only the last 12 months, Python is the most widely used, thanks to the growth of machine learning technologies, and 30% of respondents have studied and learned it.
Developers have also welcomed Microsoft’s “open source” scripting language, with 12% of them becoming the original language.
When it comes to new languages, most people prefer Go, Kathleen and Python. “Rust” is in fourth place, followed by TypeScript, “Swift” and “Dart”.
